The trophy is considered a "priceless icon" that is only meant to be touched by a select group of people, including former World Cup winners and heads of state.
FIFA is investigating how Salt Bae gained access to the field and has stated that "appropriate internal action" will be taken. The chef, who has a restaurant in Doha and was a VIP guest at the World Cup, posted photos and videos on social media of his interactions with the Argentina team, including a now-infamous moment where he grabbed the arm of captain Lionel Messi.
